2 practical tips for crushing your goals

I’m a bit of a “quote collector” if you will… So I combined two really simple yet powerful ones that have recently become part of my motto and thought I’d share them with you:

“Start before you’re ready.”

Let’s stop hesitating and second guessing ourselves when faced with the decisions that involve doing something uncomfortable. Everything will never be perfectly aligned for you to get started when it comes to bringing your vision to life so instead of waiting until you feel like it, commit to taking action quickly, even before you’re ready. You can modify your strategies along the way or decide to go in a different direction altogether but if you never took the first step, you would never know what needs to change along the way in order to reach your end goal.

A perfect example of starting before I was ready was with this blog. I knew nothing about websites, coding, plugins or any of that stuff. 6 years ago, I didn’t even know that there was such a thing as a website in a box that you practically just plug in your information into an already designed template. But with research, I learned the minimum necessary and got started. Over the years, I changed my themes multiple times until I found one I was happy with. I still don’t know much coding but there are ways around that and plugins available for everything. It may sound cliché to say where there’s a will there is a way but it is very true saying. With a little determination and a lot of faith, I encourage you all to take the first step even if you don’t see the whole staircase. Your efforts and boldness will pay off in the end.

“Stop asking blind people to proofread your vision.”

Secondly, you also have to have discernment in friendship because true friends should help push you towards your goals but having dream killers in your circle may have the opposite effect if they do not support or trust your vision. There’s a reason why the vision was given to you and not them so be careful who you share your dreams with.

I have seen firsthand how someone may not understand what you’re doing and yet they choose to still be supportive. My mother did not grow up in the age of social media so she barely even knows what a blog is. However, she was the first to start passing out my business cards and telling people to follow me simply because she has my best interest at heart and is in my corner no matter what I’m doing. My friends and other relatives have turned themselves into photographers and editors for my blog. They share my posts, read my blog and show support the best way they know how. but even if they don’t, I must still continue to push forward because I can’t wait for their support to validate my vision.

About the look: I ordered this dress by Boohoo from Asos.com a few months back thinking the dots were black but they were navy blue which was even better in my opinion. I fell in love with the design of the dress first but the juxtaposition of the florals against the polka dots won me over. Mini dresses, especially ones with long sleeves are perfect for the fall where it’s still warm enough to wear a short dress and cool enough to rock long sleeves. So bring out those fall booties and keep rocking your summer dresses! Similar dresses are available here and here.

The message in today’s post goes out to those of us who are people pleasers or who yearn for validation before taking action. The only validation you need is to be walking in God’s will and doing things that will bring Him glory. Once that’s checked off your list, pack your faith, carry your courage and take the first step towards your destiny. You owe it to yourself and you owe it to your community because the world needs your talent. Take flight darling!

Thanks for sharing this! I’ve been meaning to share a lot of stuff starting with all my draft blog posts and for some reason, I keep thinking I’m not ready :-(.

Girl, you already have the blog. You already have the drafts. Hit publish. Besides, you can always edit them after you publish them if necessary…

I’m a lover of quotes myself, so this was great. Loving the dress too!
