There’s no denying that simply being a human being comes with a lot of stressors with which we must cope day in and day out. From financial issues to health concerns, relationship woes and family responsibilities, no one seems to be exempt from being overwhelmed and when it isn’t managed, this silent killer that is stress leads to depression, anxiety, memory problems and worst of all suicide. According to the American Psychological Association, 44% of Americans have reported that their stress levels have increased over the past five years. Not only is stress affecting adults, it is also ravaging our youth so much that it is affecting their health.
As merely humans, it ‘makes sense’ to worry about everything but as Christians, if we really believe that God will work every single thing out for our good, shouldn’t we be unfazed by our circumstances? This clearly falls in the category of things that are easier said than done but as we grow in our faith (which we should be… daily) we ought to rest in the fact that our circumstances are in God’s hands. The crazy thing is that most of the things we worry about don’t even come to pass so causing ourselves unnecessary stress is truly a waste of time.
I encourage you today to live a life according to Philippians 4: 6-7, where you are not anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, you present your requests to God so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. When things are out of your control, choose to remain calm and give God room to be who He is and do what He does which is to work things out for your good and for His glory!
Until next time,
