We are living in unprecedented times and as a result, it seems so vain to be updating a fashion blog. However, now that so many of us are forced to be still, or at least slow down, I figured it can’t hurt to consume some positive content. Considering the way 2020 has been hitting everyone like a ton of bricks, there’s no better time to prioritize self care. So many of us are overwhelmed because it just seems like we can’t catch a break; so we have to make a conscious effort to adjust our routines in ways that can benefit our overall well being and help us maintain our sanity. So here are some things we can all do in the comfort of our homes to take better care of ourselves:
FEED YOURSELF SPIRITUALLY
Now that this pandemic has literally cleared our schedules, there’s no excuse not to prioritize prayer. Not only is it NOT optional anyway, prayer unlocks all the blessings and divine protection available to us. It is the open line of communication between us and our Heavenly Father who knows and controls all things. The only way to maintain our peace during this pandemic is to remain connected to the Prince of Peace. You can meditate on Psalms 91 if you’re feeling anxious.
Personally, I haven’t been feeling scared or anxious with all that is going on right now because I know that God is still on the throne. If I don’t get sick, He’s covering me. If I do get sick, He will keep me. And if I die from being sick, then I’ll be with Him so there’s still no reason to worry. We may not be able to control the thoughts that pop into our minds but what we can control is what we do with these thoughts. Instead of entertaining the negative self talk that heightens our anxiety, we should work on holding our thoughts captive and redirecting them to the unchanging truth of God’s word. Worrying has never changed our situation for the better so we might as well relax and make the most of these circumstances over which we have no control.
If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.
Psalms 91: 9-10
CLEAN YOUR SPACE
Another thing you can do as you pass time is to clean up your space. An unmade bed and a messy room just don’t create an atmosphere of serenity and peace. The same goes for a cluttered purse, disorganized wallets, crowded desk etc… Don’t just stop at sanitizing all surfaces; be sure to shred old mail, water your plants, move your bed and dust unreachable places, light scented candles and play some soothing music. Your environment totally affects your mood so clean up sis! In addition to scented candles, I’ve been using room sprays lately and I’m loving the pleasant scents. You can get some at Target or Amazon.
PURGE YOUR WARDROBE
@CatherineOchun wrote a post that said: “No more trying to re-purpose raggedy, worn out clothes as “house clothes.” Let them go, sis. It’s killing your vibes, even if you haven’t realized.” I couldn’t agree more. We have nothing but time as we are in quarantine so as you are cleaning, make some time to purge: get rid of old clothes, ill fitting undergarments, and in general anything that doesn’t fit or that you no longer wear; cheap perfume, unused nail polishes, old custom jewelry, worn out shoes – they all have to go. And I promise, you’ll feel 10 times lighter after getting rid of excess items that no longer serve you.
GUARDING YOUR HEART
A popular quote by Robin S. Sharma says: “What you focus on grows, what you think about expands, and what you dwell upon determines your destiny.” So much of life right now is out of our control but the little we can control should not be feeding your fears and insecurities. Instead, let’s be mindful of the content we are consuming. I recommend the following:
Turn off the news this week and take a walk if you can. Open your Bible and meditate the Psalms. Tune in to the social pages of those who are having virtual parties or cooking shows on IG stories, read a non fiction book, cook something you’ve never cooked before, learn a new language, learn a dance routine from Youtube, update your journal, do a 30 minute at home workout, play games with your family, learn how to do a budget, put on a face mask and give yourself a bubble bath, a manicure / pedicure, file your taxes, turn off your alarm and sleep in, work on that business plan you’ve been procrastinating on. The options really are endless.

Whatever you do, guard your heart darling. It’s important to protect your well being and do all the things that can lessen your anxiety because stress is a disease that can kill you long before a virus ever knocks at your door.
Truer words have never been spoke! It is imperative to focus our attention on the Prince of Peace especially when the rest of the world is turmoil. God will see us through this too ππΎ.

Yes sis β€οΈ I pray that everyone will redirect their focus to an attitude of gratitude through the storm because no matter how scary it is, we still have it way better than folks in other countries.
Yes, that is my go-to psalm every night. People really worry too much with emptying the shelves and crowded the stores. Hope as this week passes, we feel a sense of calmness.
