Usually at the beginning of the year, many of us set the goal of getting closer to God but we soon realize that doing so requires a lot of intentionality, preparation and discipline. The goal is to dedicate quiet time daily to read the Bible, worship, journal & the one we love to forget – sitting quietly to listen to God speak.
If doing all of these things came naturally to us, so many more of us would be doing them but sometimes reading the Bible just seems like a daunting task because it’s hard to decide where to even start. That’s where reading plans come in handy and the Youversion Bible App has been my saving grace in that regard, for years.
In addition to having multiple versions of the Bible in different languages, the beauty of this app is that you can choose a plan that’s only for 3 days, or 7 days, 21 days or even 365 days. Whatever floats your boat. You can search through the featured plans and save the ones that speak to you most. You can also search for different options based on time of year (i.e. Christmas, Easter) based on topics that apply to your current situation (rest, fear, marriage) or you can even search by specific authors or pastors. Some plans are video format, some have audio and some you simply read. The options really are endless.
If your friends are using the app as well, you can share what you’re currently reading with them or you can decide to read plans that they have completed since you can see their activity on the community tab. You can even choose to read a plan together as a group, which allows everyone in the group to comment. This is a tool that can really help you make progress towards getting closer to God.
Here are 5 amazing plans you should try:
- Dangerous Prayers by Pastor Craig Groeshel
- Fast like Daniel by Scott Williams
- Financial fitness by Rick Warren
- The secret to hearing God by Jackie Hill Perry
- Coronavirus and Christ by John Piper
As you can tell from these titles, there are plans focused on finances, current events, spiritual disciplines etc. The plan by Jackie Hill Perry was actually inspired by the movie Harriet and it’s soooooo good! So no matter where you are in your walk with God, there’s a plan for you. Choose one and keep growing spiritually.
Until next time,
