How to look elegant for a formal event

wedding guest attire, women's fashion
This past weekend, I attended a 90th birthday party and surprisingly had the time of my life. It was refreshing to simply be a guest for once and not be responsible for anything behind the scenes so I danced and partied the night away. Here’s what I wore.

This dress is a beauty from last year that I purchased from Asos to attend my brother’s wedding in Haiti. Here are a few similar lace options if you’re interested: Option 1, Option 2, Option 3. Fast forward to a year later, he already has the cutest 1 month old baby. How time flies but I digress… Since I didn’t take any pictures at the wedding, I had to make sure I documented the look this time around. I paired the gorgeous lace number with a simple pair of drop earrings and my MVMT marble watch and completed the look with my trusted “wedding shoes”… I know what you’re thinking… No I am not married but when you wear the same pair of heels to every wedding you attended for the past 2 years, they are your wedding shoes! Here’s a similar one if you’re in the market for a pair of formal heels.

Back to this dress. I find that midi length numbers like this one are ideal for formal events and help to avoid drawing unwanted attention especially if the back is exposed. If you’re going for a shorter length dress, ensuring that your bust and back are fully covered will keep the look balanced and on the classy side. Another tip for an elegant look is not to over accessorize. In the past, I have been guilty of wearing all of my accessories at once but now that I know better, I want us all to do better. Less is more. If you’re wearing a statement necklace, opt for no earrings or small studs. Your look comes off more elegant and timeless when none of your pieces are competing with the other. And when it comes to shoes, lately I’ve been gravitating towards single sole heels instead of platforms. They truly are timeless and pull the look together effortlessly.

I hope you enjoyed this look and the above tips on how to keep your formal attire looking effortlessly elegant. Until next time,

I simply screenshot that whole last part! Such a great advice about balance in your look and outfits!! Short length/fully covered, backless/mid length! Got it! πŸ‘πŸΎ Soooo important and crucial when making a first impression anywhere! Cocktail/professional or family formal attire without looking matronly either! This is so useful! I’m sharing this everywhere!! Thanks Dwina!!!!!

Gorgeous and chic as usual! I’m currently looking for a dress for a 50th birthday for labor day weekend and loved this dress but it’s out of stock πŸ™ guess I’ll have to keep looking.
