Representation matters. Always has. Always will.
Knowing that our future sons and daughters will have seen people who look like them in magazines, in the Oval Office and in various other positions of power is quite refreshing. Given the current climate of this country, we are obviously not where we need to be but today, we are acknowledging the progress that has been made over the years.
I’m not sure when the Vogue challenge started but soon thereafter, it inspired fellow black girls to showcase their magic via the Essence Challenge and we surely love to see it. Here are my favorite covers from this awesome challenge.
These ladies personified what black girl magic really is and if it wasn’t for the challenge, we would totally believe that they are cover girls because they look so good! Which one is your favorite?
As for me, I am glad the week is over. Getting these blog posts out to you on a daily basis is REAL WORK especially since I work full time. Plus they won’t promote themselves and that’s a whole other job in itself. No complaints though. I love it but it is exhausting nonetheless.
I have to do my hair this weekend so expect a new style soon. I’ve heard that you guys want to see more hair content so I’ll be working on that. I hope that you all get some well deserved rest this weekend and I’ll see you back here on Monday, God willing!
