Lately, I’ve been having various conversations with a workaholic who seriously cannot seem to stop working even after wrapping up at the office. For one, at the end of the day, I’m beyond exhausted and can’t imagine working some more when I get home. I mean I do blog work most evenings but office work ends for me when I clock out. I absolutely refuse to download my work email on my cell. Doing this blurs the lines between work and home even more now that we are confined to work from home. Again boundaries!
When there comes a time to make an exception to get something done after hours, I totally understand making the sacrifice but to make overworking a way of life is an absolute no no. Besides, there is no award for overextending yourself to the point of consistent exhaustion.
All this to say, all the vacation days you were supposed to take this year that have yet to be used because of COVID, take them! Have a quiet day by the beach if you’re in warmer climates, get a massage, get your nails done. Maybe simply spend a day and catch up on all your favorite shows. It doesn’t matter what you do as long as you hang up your superwoman cape for a while. If God himself rested on the 7th day, what makes us think that we don’t have to?
And while you’re at it, stop trying to be everything for everyone. Only Jesus can do that!
