Will you still be obedient when noone is applauding?

This T-shirt is just perfect especially for those of us who are people-pleasers.  In yesterday’s post, we talked about not giving up too soon, and to continue that conversation, I’d like to add that we also shouldn’t rely on people’s applause to determine if our work is worth it. I know for sure that this is easier said than done because we love compliments. I mean, they are quite encouraging however, we have to be smart not to “let people’s compliments get to our head nor their criticism get to our heart.’

In this post from last year, I shared a list of ten gospel songs that keep me uplifted. Then a couple of months ago, I shared a song on my IG Stories (←Click to follow me there if you aren’t already) and one of my Versicolor friends slid in my DMs to tell me that she loved that song. Her comment then sparked a conversation about the artist’s new album release. She went on to tell me that she actually didn’t know this artist before but she discovered him when I shared that blog post last year and has been listening to him ever since. This shouldn’t have shocked me because I share information on this blog that I’m always hoping is useful and valuable to my readers but yet I was still caught off guard. I suppose it’s because I didn’t even realize that she reads my blog. Not only was she a reader, she benefited from the information I shared without necessarily commenting anything until that conversation.

I say all this to highlight the fact that I (and perhaps maybe some of you) get discouraged when doing something for which there are no awards, no applause, no large followings and thousands of likes to show for it. As a blogger, I rely on engagement in order to secure brand partnerships but on the same token, I consider my blog part of my life’s work, or my ministry if you will. If I’m being obedient to God in sharing what He has laid on my heart, even if only one person reads it, I have done my job.

I wouldn’t want this idea to stop any of you from pushing harder to reach more people when promoting your business or sharing your talent, but when we allow the applause of others or lack thereof to determine whether we keep going, that’s when it becomes a problem. Though I love it when my followers engage with me, I can’t stop posting if they don’t. If I do, I rob the one person who could have benefited from my post of the opportunity. Besides, if we aren’t faithful with very little, we won’t be trusted with much. (Luke 16:10).

With that said, I was inspired to share ten more gospel songs I’m currently loving. Check them out and add them to your Gospel playlist:

Situation by Jonathan McReynolds – You should listen to (and watch) the whole visual album titled People. I also love the song Grace
Never lost by Elevation Worship feat. Tauren Wells
Nothing else by Cody Carnes
God with us by Terrian
New wine by Hillsong Worship
Crossroads by Collective Grace Worship
My worship by Phil Thompson
I know who I am by Sinach
Promises by Maverick City Music feat. Joe L. Barnes & Naomi Raine
Most beautiful / So in love by Maverick City Music feat. Chandler Moore – Maverick City is God’s gift to Christian Music lovers. In their own words “Maverick City is a community of songwriters creating a space where worship expression takes precedence over proficiency.” And that ladies and gentlemen is reason enough to give them a listen. Such amazing worship!

This post right here speaks to the heart because we know, we have quit blogging over and over again and God keeps saying, what are you doing? Are you quitting because you don’t have the thousands you are seeking to applaud you or have I called you to minister to a few? If we can’t be trusted with a few, we can’t be trusted with much.

Girl yes! But now that we know better, we must absolutely do better. “Have I called you to minister to a few” is a whole sermon in itself 🙌🏽

Thank you for the gospel songs list. Very encouraging. Doing stuff without an applaud is tough but it’s necessary.

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 We got to do it for the Glory of God!! Love it, even if one person sees/ reads it, that’s all that matters!!! God has given us many talents, may we never get discouraged in doing our purpose even when no one is looking or celebrating publicly. For everything we are doing is not in our own strength but in God’s strength instead.
