Would the Lord be pleased if he plugged his aux cord to your playlist…?

There’s plenty that’s acceptable in culture particularly for adults; Many of us try to censor what our children see and hear but because we’re adults, anything goes. That is a sure way to remain in non-productive cycles of dysfunction, complacency or worse.

Jonathan McReynolds wrote a song called ‘Cycles’ which starts like this:

Didn’t I conquer this last year?
Tell me what I missed
I fear that it’s coming back up again.
Must be something I ate
Some song, some show, some hate.

There’s so much truth in this. Have you ever listened to a song before bed and then woke up humming it nonstop? Even when you’re not paying attention to what’s playing, it somehow gets ingrained in your brain and affects you in unexpected ways. There are some songs out there with terrible lyrics but because they’re popular and trendy, we mindlessly listen and sometimes even subconsciously memorize and before we know it, they’re shaping the way we think.

This isn’t always negative though. A lot of the posts I write on this blog are inspired by the content I consume. Content creators usually consume a lot of content from their counterparts that inspires them to create more content of their own with a fresh perspective. The bottom line is what we put in is what will come out, good or bad.

I was recently watching this video on IG where a content creator shared that her mom came over and as soon as she fell asleep, felt a presence in the room that didn’t feel right. She decided to pray and asked God why she was feeling this presence and she heard the answer “MUSIC” in her spirit. Though she wasn’t clear on what that meant, she spoke to her daughter about it the next morning who confirmed that she started listening to a workout playlist while exercising which contained music with a lot of explicit content.

The daughter was so shocked when her mother brought it up because the day before she had an inkling that she should stop listening to those songs. The conversation with her mom was confirmation that the music affected her household more than she realized. It always seems innocent at first but the impact can be quite detrimental.

This verse sums it up perfectly:

“The lamp of the body is the eye. If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light; but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness. And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be!” – Matthew 6:22-23

This post isn’t meant to condemn anyone but rather to encourage you to take inventory of the content you consume. What you watch and listen to doesn’t have to be gospel to be acceptable, but it should be positive, uplifting and encouraging.

So the question remains: Would the Lord be pleased with the shows and music videos you watch, the social media accounts you follow, and the music you listen to? Let’s take inventory and adjust accordingly.

Girll you can say that again! People don’t realize that the same way we use music to worship and enter the presence of God is the same way the devil uses music to influence people. After all, he was the one in charge of worship, so music is his thing and we have to be careful what we are consuming. On a side note, I shot this outfit and didn’t realize you were wearing a skirt as a top LMAO. Talk about a slow moment, but that is such a genius idea. I would not have thought of it LOL.

Wow! I am glad you are having that conversation. Two months ago, I posted how much time people are spending online ..now more then ever due to the pandemic. We just have to listen and do things that feed our soul, professional and personal progress. Love reading your posts! ❤

Valene, thanks so much for that feedback. It’s so true that we have to watch what we listen to, watch and read. At the very least, we should consume content that helps us grow in one way or another and challenge us in the way we think… I pray this post brings awareness to those who need it most. Thanks so much for reading!
